Introduction

The Sykes family, from Ripponden, Halifax, form the link between the ASPINALL and McDANIELSON families.

Joseph SYKES, date of birth unknown, a Weaver, was the father of James (bapt 1782 at Ripponden) and John, (bapt 1787 at Ripponden) who are both equally the direct ancestors of most of the current McDanielson family in England. Their mother may have been Hannah HOLROYDE who married Joseph Sykes on 31 October 1776 at Elland Parish Church.

The parish registers for Ripponden indicate that Joseph and Hannah had seven or eight children, between 1779 and 1796, but aside from James and John, nothing further is known of these children.

The descendents of James and John would later marry three times into the same Aspinall family who married into the McDanielson family.

James and his descendents are detailed here.

John and his descendents are detailed here.
